When Barnes' efforts to kill Bob fail - and his offer to hire him backfires - he sends his girlfriend, Sybil (Rochelle Hudson), after him.

A popular singer, Marian Washburn (Maureen O'Hara), suddenly and unexplainably loses her voice, causing a shake-up at the club where she works. Her worried but loyal piano player, Luke Jordan (Melvyn Douglas), helps to promote a new, younger singer, Susan Caldwell (Gloria Grahame), to temporarily replace Marian. Susan finds some early acclaim but decides to leave the club after a few performances. Soon after Susan quits, she is gunned down, and Marian quickly becomes a suspect.

Glamorous starlet Vicky Lynn (Carole Landis) is murdered, and the cops want to pin the killing on her manager, fast-talking Frankie Christopher (Victor Mature). But the more Vicky's sensible sister, Jill (Betty Grable), finds out about Frankie, the less she suspects him of the crime. As Jill and Frankie fall in love, the detective in charge of the case (Laird Cregar) develops a morbid obsession with punishing Frankie, leading to a shocking conclusion.

An unemployed drifter, Eric Stanton (Dana Andrews) wanders into a small California town and begins hanging around the local diner. While Eric falls for the lovely waitress Stella (Linda Darnell), he also begins romancing a quiet and well-to-do woman named June Mills (Alice Faye). Since Stella isn't interested in Eric unless he has money, the lovelorn guy comes up with a scheme to win her over, and it involves June. Before long, murder works its way into this passionate love triangle.

In San Francisco, retired Detective Nick Charles (William Powell) and his attractive wife, Nora (Myrna Loy), learn from police Lt. Abrams of the murder of a race jockey, but Nick refuses to get involved. Approached later by athletics commission head Maj. Jason Scully and reporter Paul Clarke (Barry Nelson), Nick still declines to investigate. When another reporter is murdered and Paul is arrested, Nick gives way to Nora's plea and, with their fox terrier Asta, sets out to solve the murders.

After Nora buys a painting for Nick's birthday and the artist is murdered, Nick discovers that the murder is connected to espionage.

But Tom is envious of his outlaw brother, and he decides to join Wes in a life of crime.

Italian archer Dardo Bartoli (Burt Lancaster) is waging a war against the Hessians. His grudge against their leader, Count The Hawk Ulrich (Frank Allenby), is more than simply political. Long ago, he took away Dardo's beautiful wife, Francesca. Then, under his former spouse's orders, Ulrich returned to steal the couple's son, Rudi. Incensed, Dardo kidnaps Ulrich's comely niece, Anne (Virginia Mayo), and slowly emerges as a rebel leader who may be able to drive out the Hessians for good.

In the Wild West, the Rawhide way station becomes the center of a hostage situation when four murderous fugitives (Hugh Marlowe, Dean Jagger, Jack Elam, George Tobias) take it over in a heist scheme. After killing the stationmaster (Tyrone Power), the criminals keep the only other employee, Sam Todd (Edgar Buchanan), alive to avoid outside suspicion by maintaining a front of normalcy. But Todd and the other hostages, Vinnie Holt (Susan Hayward) and her young niece, plot to make an escape.

In this classic Western, wanderers Gil Carter (Henry Fonda) and Art Croft (Henry Morgan) ride into a small Nevada town plagued by cattle thieves. Initially suspected of being the rustlers themselves, Carter and Croft eventually join a posse out to get the criminals, who also may be involved in a recent shooting. When the posse closes in on a group that could be the fugitives, they must decide on a course of action, with numerous lives hanging in the balance.

In this Western set on the Texas frontier, Pacer Burton (Elvis Presley) is the mixed-race son of a white rancher (John McIntire) and his second wife, Kiowa woman Neddy (Dolores del Río). When some local racists cause Neddy's death by preventing the doctor from coming to her aid, a war between the whites and the tribe erupts. As the war threatens to drive a wedge between Pacer and his white brother, Clint (Steve Forrest), he takes matters into his own hands.

But Isabel returns to Larry's life when he becomes romantically involved with Sophie (Anne Baxter), a troubled alcoholic recovering from tragedy.

Stingo (Peter MacNicol), a young writer, moves to Brooklyn in 1947 to begin work on his first novel. Flashbacks reveal her harrowing story, from pre-war prosperity to Auschwitz. In the present, Sophie and Nathan's relationship increasingly unravels as Stingo grows closer to Sophie and Nathan's fragile mental state becomes ever more apparent.
